Beginning Chest Stands Workshop

Who this workshop recording is for:

This 60-minute online workshop is meant for students who already have a comfortable amount of back flexibility and are interested in learning how to do chest stands. We'll work on exercises to strengthen and stretch our whole back, and cover proper chest stand technique to ensure SAFE, supported bending (what to engage, how to breathe, etc.).

Prerequisites: Able to hold a puppy pose with your chin touching the floor

What you’ll learn:

  • Active flexibility exercises for your full back flexibility - since chest stands are such an advanced pose, you need flexibility through your ENTIRE backbending chain, from your hip flexors all the way up to your neck to support the shape

  • How to breathe in a chest stand and deep backbends

  • How to use props/support for your first chest stands - we’ll use blocks and a wall to help move the bend into different parts of our back and support our chest stands

  • Progressive exercises/drills to continue to deepen your chest stand as you get more comfortable

  • A full 60-minute flexibility & conditioning routine you can follow-along to keep working on your chin stands and chest stands

Recommended props:

  • Two yoga blocks

  • Some wall space
